Three fixed-price menus suited to student budgets.
A canteen operation we took over in 2024 for 6,500 students of a technical university in Kocaeli. Three fixed-price menus (standard, vegetarian, light) at 85 TRY for lunch and 70 TRY for dinner, with a free meal card for scholarship students.
The solution
Within a price framework prepared with the university rectorate, an annual 12% price increase cap was added to the contract. Daily menus are published through a mobile app and student feedback is evaluated weekly.
Results
- An average of 4,800 meals a day
- Student satisfaction 4.4 / 5
- Preference for the vegetarian menu rose from 9% to 21%
Lessons learned
Price sensitivity is high in student canteens; fixed-price menus and scholarship student cards raised user satisfaction. Calorie and allergen information in the mobile app doubled the preference for vegetarian options.
